TaRL Delivery Model
TaRL delivers reading instruction (in English, Hausa, and, following the Lagos expansion, Yoruba) and math through dedicated TaRL classes, occupying one and a half to two hours a day during the school timetable. Instruction is delivered by government teachers and mentors, supported by Head Teachers at school level and government School Support Officers at cluster level, with progress tracked through state EMIS and real-time dashboards.
Partnerships
We work hand-in-hand with State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEB) and Ministries of Education across 12 states in Nigeria. In Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano, and Lagos, this means deep, government-led and financed partnerships with integrated teacher professional development and scale-up models. In Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, and Niger, we work in partnership with UNICEF to support government-led delivery. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) serves as our national coordination and administrative anchor.
We have teams in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Kebbi.
We support TaRL adoption in Nigeria by:
- Supporting governments to reach state-wide scale and institutionalise TaRL
- Supporting interested state governments to adopt TaRL across the country to demonstrate impact across a variety of contexts
- Working together with the Federal government to create supportive structures, systems and policies.
